What to do with projects using svn:externals to qooxdoo framework?

Peter Schneider
Hi there,
I am aware of your move to git and github but this is what currently happens:

Projects here use "svn:externals" feature to get the qooxdoo framework (that's
what externals are supposed to do), but github seems to have dropped that
SVN-feature[1].

What's the recommendation for qooxdoo based projects, that rely on
"svn:externals"?

As an observed example, this 'link' seems dead now:
        https://github.com/qooxdoo/qooxdoo/branches/branch_5_0_x

Viewing that URL with the browser, it tells me:
   410
   Feature Gone
Sorry, but this feature has been retired.

Any advice on how to approach this issue(s) / convert these projects?

/Peter

[1] That's something I really hate when referencing other projects: They tend
to change their mind on anything and that's always gonna bite me.

Hi Peter,

I don't know if this means something related to svn usage, but you can
reach the branch via

     https://github.com/qooxdoo/qooxdoo/tree/branch_5_0_x

BTW: Please consider posting future requests on stackoverflow.com and
add the tag qooxdoo to your question.

Regards
Dietrich

I successfully checked out branch_5_0_x via

svn checkout https://github.com/qooxdoo/qooxdoo/branches/branch_5_0_x

so I think svn:externels should also work?!?!?

Strange... it seems that posting this question here (or your answer) fixed the
issue ;)
The update of the svn:externals works again!

Out of curiosity: Anyone having an explanation for that? A bad gateway on my
side or a temporary service-down @ github or ...?
I'm not *that* good in network analysis.

The URL with 'tree' in between has no knowledge of SVN revisions
(seems only to be valid if working with git). I did try that format when I
first tried to fix the issue myself.

Will try to remember ;)
So this newsgroup is essentially useless for new questions now?

availability and stability, unfortunately is not one of githubs
greatest assets ...

In reply to this post by Peter Schneider
Regarding questions on stackoverflow:

We try to move over to stackoverflow, as this would improve the projects
visibility and has a lot more options in formatting code and text,
linking, crossreferencing, adding images, editing questions and answers
and so forth.

Regarding the move to github: the github move currently happening is
only the issue tracker from bugzilla.qooxdoo.org to github, because we
try to have source code and issue tracking both the same platform. The
move of the repo itself from sourceforge to github was already done in 2011.

I read every message on qooxdoo-devel, and answer some. If we're moving to stackoverflow, I want to ensure that I receive every qooxdoo message posted there. I just created a stackoverflow account, but I can't figure out how to get notified of qooxdoo posts. Can someone enlighten me?

Cheers,

Derrell

I don't know if this is the 'canonical' method, but if you move
your mouse over a 'qooxdoo' tag, a popup will offer a 'subscribe'
link. If you click the link, you will get a confirmation email and
henceforth you will get notifications on posts to the qooxdoo tag.
